How To: Display Embroidery On Hoop

Saturday I taught an embroidery class at Monkey See Monkey Do. All the girls did absolutely wonderful. However, you can't expect everyone to finish a wonderful embroidery within an hour class! So I sent them home with hoops on hand, some embroidery thread and a needle to finish at home.

This tutorial is going to show you how to finish your embroidery when you are all done so it looks nice and neat on your hoop! So here it goes:

What you will need:

- Scissors
- Athena's tacky glue or any other craft glue.
- Paintbrush
- Finished Embroidery!

So let's get started!
Step One: Make sure your fabric is taunt all the way around and hoop it tightened.

Step Two: Trim excess fabric, leaving about 1/4 inch all the way around.

Step Three: Run a line of glue all the way around the edge of the hoop and spread with the paint brush.

Step Four: Tuck the fabric down around. Make sure you push it down straight. It will buckle up a bit.

And that's all! 
Your hoop is finished. Tie a beautiful ribbon or extra embroidery thread on top and its ready for hanging!

Felicity American Girl Embroidery Class

This Saturday from 10-11am is the Felicity Learns A Lesson Embroidery class!  Travel to colonial times to discover a skill then passed on from generations.  Each "American Girl" will create their own embroidered hoop as they go back in time to the days of Felicity.

A Look At: Inventions in Art

Monday was the last of the Inventions In Art series and the last of my preschool classes until September. I just wanted to share some pictures.

This one was my favorite class. We read some fantastic books about inventing and one of the biggest dreamers of all...Leonardo Da Vinci! Then we created "blueprints" of our own inventions using a super simple printmaking technique called the Monoprint. There were some fantastic ideas! We certainly have some creative little inventors at Monkey See, Monkey Do!

Inventions & Explorations Series Starts Monday!

This Monday I am starting a three part series about inventions and exploration through art!  This first class will be about mythical beasts!  Lots of books to explore and your own mythical beast to create!

Also visit this awesome site, Beast Bender to create more beasts of your own! Mine is pictured above, he's called a Rhinotoo.  Post our creations below!  I'd love to see them!

For Preschoolers (age 3-5) 
Every Monday for 3 Mondays (June 6, 13, 20) from 10:30am to 11:30 am.
$15 for 3 weeks, or $7 per week.

The classes will be going undersea to create an awesome crayon resist water color  And then for that Monday after invent your own creations!  We will do some printmaking to create your invention blueprint!

Call for Volunteers Wednesday!

Monkey See, Monkey Do... plans on participating in Albright Knox's annual Art Alive event and we need volunteers to participate!

Art Alive is an annual event where schools, individuals an groups recreate a work of art using costumes, backdrops and creativity!  It is an incredible event with food, music and fun for all ages.

We are looking for those interested to come to Monkey See, Monkey Do Bookstore at 3:30pm so we can discuss the artwork we will be recreated and to help us build, paint and create our entry!  We will also discuss other meeting times to work on this project that night as well as information for the day of the event. 

The event is June 4th so we don't have much time!  But we can do it! Check out the pictures from last years event, aren't they fantastic?

Wearable Art: Wed. 18th 1-3pm

This Wednesday I will be teaching at Monkey See, Monkey Do.... Children's Bookstore.  I am super excited for it is a Wearable Art class!  One of the projects is a T-shirt scarf you see me sporting in the picture above. 

Wearable Art Workshop
1 – 3pm (ages 7 and up)
Kids will stencil their own shirt and create wearable items using old shirts—scarves and rosette pins! This fun-filled class will inspire creativity and one-of-a kind projects! We’ll read A Girl Named Pants Builds a Business to further enhance the theme “I Can Do Anything!”
$25/student.
